eHarmony Review

eHarmony is an online dating platform established back in 2007. It claims to be responsible for more than 10,000 marriages, along with thousands of babies and relationships during this period. It has an advanced matching system that uses a personality survey and profile information to compatible members with the highest chances of resulting in a successful pairing.

Key Features

  • Custom dashboard with an overall personalized user experience
  • Advanced matching system to match you with the most compatible members
  • Ability to tell the platform who you wish to be matched with
  • New batch of handpicked matches presented daily
  • Profiles highlight personality traits instead of physical features
  • Guided communication allows users to know fellow users more in-depth before you start one-on-one messaging

Signing Up

It is easy to sign up since you are guided through the process by questions. Once you answer basic questions about you age, children, marital status, location, and sexual preference, you then run through the personality survey questions asking to rate how well words (such as stable, affectionate, clever) describe you.

You will then have to nominate 4 words from a list that your best friends would use when describing you such as funny, dependable, good listener, etc. After this you have to answer questions about how you lead your life such as seeking adventure, doing things to a plan, how skilled you are when it comes to creating romance in your relationships.

The questions might be many when signing up, but eHarmony will keep you updated with your progress. The answers you provide to the questions will be used for determining your personality traits and help match you to other users who share similar traits that would likely lead to a successful match.

Establishing Contact

eHarmony provides several communication options for both free and paid members. Initially any user may send a fellow user that they have matched with a Smile for letting the person know that they have read their profile and liked what they see.

Guided Communication is what all users can contact other users. The approach provides pre-populated questions that can be sent to matches to get to know them better. After 3 rounds of back and forth Guided Communication with your match on questions that get deeper as they go, you can decide to move communication to email and send free text messages to your match.

Paid members can use SecureCall that allows members to chat with matches via the phone without first revealing their phone number for the purpose of security and privacy.

Profile Quality

The profiles on eHarmony are incredibly detailed and contain great information that you can start getting to know your matches. You will find information about their likes and dislikes, how they spend their leisure time, what they believe to be their best life skills, etc. All this information is designed to help start meaningful conversations with matches to make communication better.

App

eHarmony has 2 mobile apps available on both iOS and Android. Unlike most other dating platforms, eHarmony separates its apps with the main app being used for heterosexual matches and Compatible Partners used for homosexual matches.

The app has much of the functionality of the desktop website, which includes signing up, setting up your profile, reviewing your matches and contacting them, adjusting the match settings, and managing your account too.

Usability

eHarmony is an incredibly easy website to navigate and the communication features work incredibly well. It is quite easy to establish contact with fellow users and update your profile.
